MBA Survey Sees Solid Lending in 1st Quarter

June, 2004 -- A total of $20.9 billion of commercial and multifamily loans were originated during the first quarter of 2004, up by 2.8 percent from the same period a year ago, according to a survey by the Mortgage Bankers Association. But it's nearly 45 percent lower than the record $37.8 billion that was written during the fourth quarter. The fourth quarter is typically the strongest every year as lenders rush to get deals done. Once again, conduit lenders were the most active originators, followed by life insurance companies then commercial banks.
